Tell me I'm not alone.

The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! brought up a funny observation: I'm totally guilty of using Autotrader as entertainment. I can cruise that site all day, the hours passing by carelessly. Often I would prefer to browse cars on Autotrader rather than watch a movie or read a book. My wife gives me crap for this, and rightfully so.

So let's hear it: Do you use Autotrader for entertainment purposes? What's your favorite search*? Any cool tips that I should know about, so I can waste even more time on Autotrader?

Off topic, does anyone remember when Autotrader was available only in print form at gas stations? This is an example of a print company that did a seemingly super-successful transition to digital.

* just kidding, I know the answer is "Brown, Manual, Diesel, Wagon"

I spend way too much time on Autotrader; I've visited it at least once a day for probably about a year now. I still don't know what I really want as my next car, though. I'm stuck between my head and my heart.

- VW Phaeton W12

- Audi S6 Avant (C5)
- BMW 740i Sport (E38)
- BMW M5 (E34 or E39)
- Mercedes SEC/S Coupe/CL (C140 or C215)
- Mercedes SL (R129)
- Jaguar XJR
- Mazda 929 ('91-'95)
- Infiniti M45 ('02-'04)
- Lotus Esprit
- Ferrari 456

Yea, way too much time spent on Autotrader/craigslist/ebay motors/etc. Whenever the wife is doing something on her computer or watching a tv show I don't really enjoy, I'm usually window shopping for cars online.

Same here, rom-coms and Sex and The City give me lots of Autotrader time.

"kinda want, but don't actually have any intention of buying"... so true. I think my wife does not understand this part.

I too search for the Phaeton, A8L, E38 740i Sport, and E39 M5... also used to own a C5 S6 Avant, good taste my friend!

I use Autotrader as a reminder that I'm poor and I don't have enough monies for the cars I'd love to own.

Yeah, I live in a smaller city so haven't gotten into Craigslist as much but it sure is more interesting than other car sites!

Now that I know about Doug's Carmax strategy , there's a high probability my search history will be full of absurd Carmax searches.

If I had it my way, I'd have a barn full of cars rather than a garage... but yes there's the monies problem. I just tell myself they are like supermodels, great to look at but expensive and annoying to maintain. So Autotrader suffices, much like a Victoria's Secret magazine. Wait, your name is Victorious Secret. That just got circular in an awkward way.

It's more of a time-killer or curiosity-settler than entertainment, but yes.

I have the dream to have a modest (sub 1500 square foot home) with a 10k square foot garage.

Cause when I think about it, all I do at home is read, study, watch TV. I don't need an abundance of rooms or space to get that done.

But the man cavern is what counts.

Yeah, I'm all about looking at cars i have no intention of buying. I like Craigslist better, for its simple interface and lack of ads. I love looking at old American cars like Malibu drag wagons with slicks and a cowl hood, but I have soft spot for some European, mainly Italian classics. My dad drove a black 75 Lancia Beta with red leather interior for a long time,so i have always been enamored with them .Also, Alfa Giulia's, Spider's, Fiat Bertone's, the old 500's and Citroen DS's's's's.
